(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 15, 2016 – On a night filled with a number of unusual occurrences, Paul Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports experienced a roller coaster ride of ups and downs in Plymouth Dirt Track Racing action at Sheboygan County Fair Park on Saturday, June 11.

A total of 29 PDTR Sprint Cars checked into the pit area to do battle for the fourth time this year at The Plymouth Dirt Track.  After the evening’s race program was delayed 1 hour and 45 minutes to accommodate extended track maintenance work, Pokorski found himself on the pole of the first Sprint Car heat race.

Pokorski out powered outside front row starter Danny Schlafer to take the lead at the drop of the green flag. With track conditions very much on the wet, narrow and choppy side, Pokorski stuck to the inside lane while Schlafer followed closely in his tire tracks.

By lap 8, Pokorski had built up a solid half straightaway cushion over Schlafer. However, on the white flag lap Pokorski bobbled slightly in turn two, which allowed Schlafer to close dramatically. Coming to the checkered flag, Schlafer pulled underneath Pokorski in turn four. The two former Midwest Sprint Car Association series champions dueled side by side to the flag stand with Pokorski holding on to post his second heat race victory of the season by mere inches.

“We tried some new things for Saturday night, and the car seemed to work pretty well in the heat, but the track was so abnormal it was hard to tell if we made any real gains,” Pokorski said. “Nonetheless, I’m happy we won.

After several major incidents and accident cleanup delays pushed the program near the 11 p.m. citywide curfew, the scheduled 20-lap Sprint Car A main rolled onto track as the final event of the evening with Pokorski starting in the 10th position.

During the opening laps on the lightning fast, narrow and uneven track surface, Pokorski battled with Donny Goeden and Kurt Davis for the 10th position. After a restart following a caution on lap 5, Pokorski made contact with the cars of Kevin Karnitz and Justin Miller as several cars got bunched up in turn one, which resulted in front axle damage. Pokorski fell back to the rear of the field before pitting when the next caution came out on lap 8.

One lap later, the race was halted for good when Shane Wenninger flipped hard in turn 4 as the 11 p.m. curfew expired. It took a considerable amount of time to extricate Wenninger from the car. He was transported to a local hospital and found to have suffered two fracture vertebrae in the accident. Because the race did not go past the half way mark, points and pay were distributed evenly through the field.

“In the feature it again was hard to tell if the car was really working well,” Pokorski said. “It seemed like we were all just trying to stay off each other on the narrow track. We had some minor damage that will take a few hours to fix, but nothing we haven’t dealt with before and certainly part of the racing deal.”

Despite the challenging track conditions encountered by PDTR competitors in recent weeks at Plymouth, Pokorski has high hopes for this Saturday’s Interstate Racing Association/Midwest Sprint Car Association Sprint Car doubleheader at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

“I’m confident the track crew will get things worked out,” Pokorski said. “I’m really looking forward to the MSA/IRA doubleheader this Saturday night.”
