(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 9, 2023 – Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team set sail on their second season together in head-turning fashion by racking up a strong top-five A-main showing and scoring a heat race triumph in Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car action, during the 2023 season opener at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, May 6.

With 22 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars checked in, Pokorski ripped off the sixth-fastest overall qualifying lap in 13.101 seconds around the third-mile clay oval.

By turning in the fourth quickest qualifying lap in his heat race group, Pokorski earned the pole position for the first 10-lap PDTR-MSA heat race. The fourth-year 360 Sprint Car racer outpowered outside front row starter Justin Erickson to grab the initial lead on the drop of the green flag.

On lap 2, the yellow flag appeared when Nick Daywalt spun in turn four. The ensuing restart saw Kevin Karnitz pull even with Pokorski along the high groove. However, Pokorski held strong along the inside lane to maintain the top spot.

The red flag was displayed on lap 4 when Tristan Koenigs, Nick Daywalt and Kevin Seidler collided in turn two, which resulted in Daywalt’s car flipping on its side.

When the race resumed, the West Bend driver pulled away from Karnitz and the rest of the field to claim his fifth career PDTR-MSA heat race victory and seventh overall PDTR-MSA race win.

Pokorski then rolled off fifth in the 25-lap PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car main event and held the fifth spot along the low groove during the first four laps of the race until Bill Taylor slipped past on lap 5.

Nine laps later, Pokorski battled back to move past Taylor and regain fifth place in the running order as the leaders worked through heavy lapped traffic on lap 14. Pokorski reeled in the fourth place car of Kevin Karnitz over the final 11 laps, but was unable to gain the position.

Pokorski went on to notch a fifth place showing, which equaled his career-best PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car A-main finish at The Plymouth Dirt Track, in a race won by Ben Schmidt.

“The new car feels great,” Pokorski said of the Triple X chassis he is utilizing this season. “The chassis transfers weight nicely and the crew had it set up well all night. I think I could’ve done a little better in qualifying, but I was happy to win the heat race. The 63K [Kevin Karnitz] almost got me on the first restart, so I had to change up my start for the second one. I was a little too aggressive, though. It ruffled some feathers, but it ended up okay.

“The A-main track was fun to race on,” he said. “The track crew did a nice job maintaining it throughout the night. I was happy to finish in the top 5 and compete well. I think we had the second-fastest lap time in the feature, so the speed is definitely there. Now, it is about doing that consistently. I’m happy to be out competing with the Akright Auto team again this year!”

Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will return to PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car action at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, May 13 for a program which will also feature the Super Six Late Model Series, Grand Nationals and B Mods.

The May 13th PDTR racing program will also be You’re Our Heroes Night with all military, police fire and EMS personnel admitted free with valid identification.

Grandstand gates open at 4 p.m. with Late Model and Sprint Car qualifying at 4:30 p.m. and racing at 5 p.m.

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 27, 2022 – An up-and-down third season behind the wheel of a 360 Sprint Car came to a close for Alex Pokorski with a solid 10th place finish in the seat of the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team car in the 25-lap Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association main event, during the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 24.

With 24 PDTR-MSA Sprint Cars signed in for the 2022 season finale, Pokorski qualified 23rd with a lap of 13.179 seconds.

After starting eighth in the second 10-lap 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski moved up a spot when Chris Clayton stopped in turn two on the opening lap of the race to bring out a caution flag. Pokorski held on to post a seventh-place finish on the lightning-fast track surface.

The West Bend driver rolled off 18th in the 25-lap main event and steered clear of a red flag on the initial start for a flip involving Katelyn Krebsbach and a caution flag on lap 8 for the stalled car of Brandon Berth in turn one to move up to 15th.

Pokorski held strong over the next 14 laps to maintain his position in the running order before Brandon Berth flipped in turn three to bring out another red flag on lap 22.

After restarting 13th, Anthony Knierim stopped on the backstretch to bring out another caution flag shortly after the ensuing restart. Pokorski restarted 12th and mounted a late charge to move past Bill Taylor and Doug Wondra into ninth on lap 23. However, Pokorski got sideways exiting turn two on lap 24 and nearly brushed the wall, which allowed Wondra to shoot past.

Pokorski went on to notch an 10th place finish to cap off the 2022 season with a season-best A-main showing at The Plymouth Dirt Track and his second top-10 showing of the 2022 MSA campaign in a race won by Ben Schmidt.

“I had a bad qualifying run which put us behind and we had to chase the night after that,” Pokorski said. “I was happy to get a few passing points in the heat race to give us a better starting spot for the feature. The feature went well, and it felt good to move up eight spots and close out the season with a top-10 finish.

“A big ‘thank you’ goes out to the crew and sponsors for all the help and support they gave me during the 2022 season,” he said.

Pokorski completed his first full-time campaign with the PDTR 360 Sprint Cars 14th in the final 2022 PDTR 360 Sprint Car point standings. He also finished 15th in the 2022 MSA point standings, competing in 17 of the series’ 19 events.

Pokorski’s 2022 MSA campaign featured one top-five, two top-10 and six top-15 A-main showings to go along with one heat race victory and one B-main triumph. The highlight of the 2022 season was a career-best-equaling fourth place A-main finish in an Akright Auto MSA 360 Sprint Car event at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 27.

With his first season in the seat of the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team car now under his belt, Pokorski is looking forward to continuing the partnership in 2023.

“I am very excited and grateful to be back racing with Akright Auto and Spyder Akright for the 2023 season,” Pokorski said. “I’m looking forward to improving next season with what we learned this year.”

Alex Pokorski aims to cap undulating 2022 360 Sprint Car campaign on high note

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 6, 2022 – The penultimate event of the 2022 season for Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team proved to encapsulate how the majority of the team’s Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car campaign has panned out at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., as a promising start to the A main event again ended with a tinge of disappointment on Saturday, Sept. 3.

With 24 PDTR 360 Sprint Cars checked in for the annual Sheboygan County Fair all-Sprint Car event featuring both the PDTR – Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Cars and Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series, Pokorski opened the night by turning in the 17th fastest lap in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car group qualifying session with a lap of 13.411 seconds.

After lining up sixth in the second 10-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski passed Chris Larson along the high groove to briefly move into fifth on the opening circuit. On lap two, Larson battled back to drop Pokorski to sixth, which is where he finished the race.

The third-year 360 Sprint Car driver then started 18th in the 25-lap main event and utilized the high groove to make his way around a number of cars in the early going. By lap 11, the cushion-pounding Pokorski had worked his way into 14th after working his way around Doug Wondra, Tyler Brabant and Blake Wondra.

After Justin Miller brought out the lone caution flag of the race after spinning in turn two on lap 14. Pokorski restarted 12th along the inside lane, eyeing his first top-10 A-main showing of the season at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

However, a logjam along the low line on lap 14 produced an accordion effect in turn two, which prompted Pokorski to turn sideways into the infield to avoid contact.

Pokorski managed to rejoin the race without causing a caution flag. However, the off-track excursion dropped him to 18th in the running order. Pokorski battled back to work his way around Dylan Winkel on lap 23 en route to a 17th-place finish in a race won by Brandon McMullen.

“I thought we could’ve been better for qualifying and the heat race,” Pokorski said. “In the feature, we were great in the beginning. I had to check up a bit more than I expected in turns one and two after the restart and it cost me all the spots I had gained. I’m a bit frustrated with myself for making a mistake like that, but these things happen. Hopefully, we can end the season on a high note.”

Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will have two weekends off from competition before closing out the 2022 season on Saturday, Sept. 24 during the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. On-track action is set to begin at 4:45 p.m.

Alex Pokorski backs up career-best fourth place MSA main event showing in Wilmot Raceway debut

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 30, 2022 – Over the years, Wilmot Raceway has built a reputation as a somewhat acquired taste, and as a track where proven veterans often have a distinct advantage over relative newcomers.

However, third-year 360 Sprint Car driver Alex Pokorski certainly flipped that script by ripping off his best career Midwest Sprint Car Association A-main finish in his first-ever appearance at the third-mile clay oval in Wilmot, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 27, during the second half of a MSA doubleheader weekend of action.

Pokorski was quick right out of the gate behind the wheel of the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team 360 Sprint Car as he registered the fourth fastest overall time among the 29-car MSA group qualifying field with a lap of 14.068 seconds.

The West Bend driver rolled off from the pole position of the fourth eight-lap MSA heat race and bolted into the lead on the drop of the green flag and quickly built up a half-straightaway lead over defending MSA champion and current point leader Travis Arenz of Sheboygan. Pokorski held strong throughout the eight-lap event en route to his first heat race victory of the 2022 season.

On the strength of his strong performance in qualifying and heat race action, Pokorski started the 25-lap MSA A main presented by Adonnis Waterproofing and Foundation Repair of Caledonia, Wis. from the fourth starting spot. After holding the fourth spot in the early going, Brandon McMullen moved around Pokorski on lap 4 to drop him to fifth in the running order.

After a pair of cautions appeared on lap 5 and lap 14, Pokorski worked his way past Shane Wenninger and into fourth on lap 16. Over the final nine laps, Pokorski held strong in fourth despite feeling pressure at times from 2011 MSA champ Ben Schmidt and Tim Haddy in the closing stages of the race.

Pokorski went on to secure a fourth place showing to equal his previous career-best A Main showing, in a race won by Brandon McMullen. Pokorski’s previous best A-main finish was a fourth-place finish in a non-points MSA A-main event at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Oct. 2, 2021.

“The track was a nice change of pace,” Pokorski said. “The corners are a bit tighter and the straightaways are a little longer than Plymouth. The car was good all night. Starting on the front of a heat race always helps because you have clean air and track ahead of you.

“The A main was a fun race because the track had multiple lines to race on and we had a couple of restarts, which kept the field tightened up,” he said. “This season has been challenging and I’ve felt a bit unlucky at times. It felt like we got the monkey off our back a bit with a good finish, finally.”

One night earlier, Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team were in action with the PDTR 360 Sprint Cars at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. for a special Friday night program on Friday, Aug. 26.

Pokorski opened the night by qualifying 22nd in the 24-car field with a lap of 13.841. After starting seventh in the first 10-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski advanced past Doug Wondra in turn four on lap 3 and held on to finish sixth.

Alex Pokorski notched a 16th-place finish in a 25-lap Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car A-main at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Friday, Aug. 26. – RC Custom Design photo

In the 25-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main, Pokorski rolled off from the 15th starting position and spent the majority of the race keeping up with the frantic pace set on the lightning fast and undulating track surface.

Pokorski held his own throughout the caution-free race en route to a 16th-place finish in a race won by Brandon McMullen.

Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team are now set to compete in their second-to-last event of the 2022 season as part of an all-Sprint Car program featuring the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Cars and Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series on Saturday, Sept. 3 at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. during the annual Sheboygan County Fair.

On-track action is set to begin at 5 p.m.

“We have two races left on our schedule at Plymouth this Saturday during the Sheboygan County Fair and then again at Plymouth on September 24th to close out the season,” Pokorski said. “We are looking forward to building off of the momentum of the good run we had at Wilmot and closing out the season on a strong note.”

Sponsors and supporters for Alex Pokorski and the 2022 Akright Auto Racing Team include Akright Auto, Petersen Septic Systems, Goeden Auto Body, Novak’s Service Center, Wisconsin Bank and Trust, RC Custom Design and Pedal Down Promotions.

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 2, 2022 – Two weeks after missing a scheduled Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association event following a harrowing flip into the turn four catch fence while running second in a Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car A main on Saturday, July 16, Alex Pokorski returned to the driver’s seat of the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team machine to post a season-best 13th-place finish in main event competition, during the Badger State Open Wheel special event Saturday, July 30 at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis.

With the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series and Badger Midgets joining the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Cars for the special all-open wheel program, Pokorski opened the night by turning in the 19th fastest overall qualifying lap in the 27-car 360 Sprint Car field with a time of 12.880 seconds around the third-mile clay oval.

The West Bend, Wis. driver then lined up sixth in the second 10-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race and settled into sixth in the running order on the opening lap. On lap 6, Pokorski worked the inside lane to power underneath Tony Wondra and take over fifth, which is where he finished the race.

By improving one position in his heat race, Pokorski was able to earn a direct transfer into the 25-lap 360 Sprint Car A main where he rolled off from the 12th starting spot.

The third-year 360 Sprint Car driver fell back to 14th place by lap 5 of the main event as he stuck to the inside lane throughout the majority of the event. On lap 22 maneuvered his way past Jason Johnson to move into 13th place. Pokorski held on over the final three laps to post a season-best 13th-place A-main showing in a race won by Travis Arenz.

After heavy damage to the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team car sustained in a hard flip at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, July 16 forced the team to miss an Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association event at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, July 17, Pokorski was thankful to tuck a solid night under his belt in his return to competition.

“It felt good to be racing again and the car handled well throughout the night,” Pokorski said. “I would’ve liked to move up a few more spots in the A main, but I was happy to keep the car in one piece and be able to focus on improving next week.”

This Saturday, Aug. 6 is the rescheduled inaugural Plymouth Racing Wall of Fame Induction Night with the new Wall of Fame display formally slated to debut underneath the grandstands and the Class of 2022 inductees recognized during intermission.

It is also Kids Autograph Night with backpack and checkered flag giveaways courtesy of Hopf Farms.

Special weeknight event proves challenging for Alex Pokorski at Plymouth Dirt Track

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 5, 2022 – For the second consecutive outing, Alex Pokorski saw his evening come to an earlier-than-anticipated end behind the wheel of the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team 360 Sprint Car machine, during the special weeknight Road America Challenge all-Sprint Car event at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Thursday, June 30.

Pokorski, who suffered an engine failure while running sixth in the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing A main on June 18, came out firing by turning in the 10th quickest overall lap in the 29-car field and the fastest lap in his third heat race grouping with a lap of 12.999 seconds in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car group qualifying session.

After lining up fourth in the third 10-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski had a rough start, which saw him fall back to seventh shortly after the drop of the green flag after being caught on the outside lane of the dry slick racing surface.

Pokorski was unable to advance his way back through the field for the remainder of the race and had to settle for a seventh-place showing.

After the heat race passing points formula was calculated and the track surface underwent a complete reworking, Pokorski started the 12-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car B main from the 11th starting spot, needing to advance to sixth place or better to earn a spot in the 25-lap A-main field.

The third-year West Bend, Wis. driver worked his way past J.J. Pagel on lap two to move up to 10th and five laps later, he moved around Katelyn Krebsbach into ninth in the running order.

However, Pokorski was unable to move up any more positions in the non-stop race and his evening came to a close with a ninth-place showing in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car B main.

“The car was actually too tight in qualifying, but we were able to get a fast lap in,” Pokorski said. “In the heat race, the track only had one lane around the bottom and I got a poor start. Then I just got stuck following everyone.

“The track was more racey after they reworked it before the B main,” he said. “I knew it would be difficult to pass five or six cars in that race. I got past a couple cars, but not enough to make the A main. We will try again next week.”

Pokorski and the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team will return to action at The Plymouth Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 9 for PDTR’s Fan Appreciation Night program.

All adults and students in attendance will receive $5 off the regular general admission price with adults admitted for $13 with students between the ages 12 and 15 gaining entry for $5. Kids 11 and under receive free entry, if accompanied by an adult.

Vintage Modifieds are set to join the July 9 PDTR program, which will also include 360 Sprint Cars, Late Models, Grand Nationals and B Mods, with Butch and Blondie Hafemann serving as the evening’s trophy sponsor.

Spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m. with 360 Sprint Car hot laps/group qualifying slated for 5:30 p.m. and racing set to begin at 6 p.m.

Engine woes spoil promising night for Alex Pokorski at Plymouth Dirt Track

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 21, 2022 – What was shaping up to be the best outing of the season for Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car driver Alex Pokorski of West Bend, Wis. quickly turned to disappointment when engine issues struck his Akright Auto Racing Team No. 4 car to cut his night short at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, June 18.

Pokorski’s night got off to a strong start as he ripped off the second fastest qualifying lap in the 26-car PDTR 360 Sprint Car field with a lap of 12.435 seconds.

After rolling off third in the third PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski held down the third spot throughout the 10-lap event on the hammer-down, lightning-fast third-mile clay oval track surface to earn a transfer spot to the 25-lap A main.

The third-year 360 Sprint Car competitor started a 2022 season-best eighth in the PDTR 360 Sprint main event. As track conditions rapidly changed from fast and tacky to dry and slick in the opening laps of the A main, Pokorski was running eighth when the first caution flag of the race appeared on lap 6 for the stalled car of Preston Ruh.

On the restart, Pokorski bolted past Tyler Davis and Lance Fassbender to take over sixth in the running order. Pokorski was closing in on the top five when his car suddenly lost power and rolled to a stop in turn three on lap 8 with an ailing engine.

The engine issues proved to be terminal as Pokorski was credited with a 22nd place finish in a race won by Travis Arenz.

“We had just put this motor in prior to Saturday’s show,” Pokorski said. “The car felt really good for the whole night and was very fast until the point when the motor blew up. It was encouraging to have a strong showing in qualifying, the heat race and to be running well in the feature. There were no warning signs before it blew. It’s just an unfortunate break. Sometimes these things happen in racing.”

With the PDTR and MSA 360 Sprint Cars idle on Saturday, June 25, Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will return to action on Thursday, June 30 with the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and MSA 360 Sprint Cars running in support of the Road America Challenge Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series event in held conjunction with the NASCAR Cup Series weekend at Road America in nearby Elkhart Lake, Wis.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 4:30 p.m., qualifying at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.

“I am very lucky to have a dedicated car owner in Spyder Akright and to have all the supportive people around to help us change motors and work on the car,” Pokorski said. “Even fellow competitor, Dylan Winkel, stopped by to help us take a motor out Sunday morning, which was very kind of him. It’s really cool to have help from guys you compete with on a week-to-week basis. Our plan is to put in a spare motor and be back out for the next show on Thursday, June 30.”

Alex and Paul Pokorski enjoy solid MSA 360 Sprint Car runs at Plymouth Dirt Track

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 31, 2022 – For only the third time in their 360 Sprint Car racing careers, Alex and Paul Pokorski had the opportunity to compete on the same track on the same night, during a Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-Midwest Sprint Car Association event at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, May 28.

Alex Pokorski, who was behind the wheel of the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team machine, and Paul Pokorski, who was filling in behind the wheel of Spyder Akright’s 53A car, were among a field of 27 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Cars signed in for the evening’s program at the third-mile Plymouth clay oval.

In group qualifying, Paul turned in the 16th fastest lap with a time of 12.791 seconds, while Alex qualified 20th with a lap of 12.896.

After starting fifth in the first 10-lap 360 Sprint Car heat race, Paul came home sixth. Alex lined up on the pole of the third 10-lap 360 Sprint Car heat race before falling back to third on the opening lap as Dylan Winkel and Tim Haddy moved past. On lap 6, Travis Arenz worked around Alex to move him back to fourth in the running order, which is where he finished the race.

Both Alex and Paul found themselves in the B main needing to finish in the top six spots to earn a transfer position to the evening’s 25-lap A main with Alex lining up third and Paul starting fifth.

Before a lap could be completed, the red flag flew shortly after the initial start when Chris Clayton and Mike Yurmanovich collided in turn two and Randy Post got caught up in the mishap, which sent him on a series of flips.

When the lineup was reshuffled, Alex started second and Paul rolled off fourth. Alex got the jump on polesitter Katelyn Krebsbach to lead the opening lap, while Paul worked around Krebsbach on lap three to move into the runner-up spot.

As Alex pulled away to a comfortable lead, Brandon McMullen dropped Paul to third in the running on lap 10. Alex went on to claim his second career B main victory, while Paul finished third to gain a transfer spot to the main event.

Paul rolled off 19th in the 25-lap 360 Sprint Car A main and put together a solid run up through the field, including a brief side-by-side duel with his son, Alex, in the early going. The 30-year racing veteran advanced seven spots in the event to come home with a 12th place finish.

“I had fun,” Paul Pokorski said. “I didn’t change a thing from where Spyder normally starts with the car. I was curious how it would feel the way that he runs it, so I kind of looked at it like a testing session. We made a few tweaks as the night went on and I thought the car got better and having never driven it before, it took a little while to get comfortable with the way I sit in the car and where everything is.

Paul Pokorski filled in behind the wheel of Spyder Akright’s 53A car with Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Cars at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, May 28. – RC Custom Design photo

“Since I hadn’t driven in a few weeks, and the last time I drove Spyder’s car didn’t turn out very well, I just wanted to make sure we had a silent night and brought it home in one piece,” he said. “It was certainly fun to race with Alex early on in the feature and to chase him in the B main. I’m happy that we have this chance to have those experiences.”

Meanwhile, Alex found the going to be challenging on the fast and tricky track surface as he was involved in a pair of spins during the event, which impeded his progress. Alex’s second spin on lap 22 brought out a caution flag when Lance Fassbender was unable to avoid contact with his spinning car in turn three.

After restarting at the rear of the field, Alex recovered to record a 17th place showing in the event, which was won by Travis Arenz.

Paul Pokorski (53A) and Alex Pokorski (4), who competed on the same night for just the third time in their Sprint Car racing careers, lined up next to each other during the four-wide parade line prior to the start of the 25-lap Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car A-main at The Plymouth Dirt Track at The Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, May 28. – JW’s Car and Raccing Photos

“I was hoping to finish a bit better in the heat race, but there were some fast cars that got past me,” Alex Pokorski said. “We only made some slight adjustments for the B main, and I was happy to pick up a win there. The A main was a bit frustrating because I made a few mistakes, which led to me spinning and collecting another car. Hopefully, I can iron those mistakes out moving forward.”

Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will return to action with the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Cars this Saturday, June 4 with the Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series joining e PDTR 360 Sprint Cars, Late Models, Grand Nationals and B Mods.

Spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m. with PDTR 360 Sprint Car hot laps/group qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 24, 2022 – With the national touring Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprint Car Series making its annual visit to The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds along with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series, Alex Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team experienced an up-and-down type of night in the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car division on Saturday, May 21.

With a solid showing of 31 PDTR 360 Sprint Cars signed in for the all-Sprint Car two-division program, Pokorski turned in the 17th-fastest lap in PDTR 360 Sprint Car group qualifying to earn the sixth starting spot in the third 10-lap heat race.

The third-year 360 Sprint Car competitor got the jump on fifth starter Katelyn Krebsbach to seize fifth place in turn one of the opening lap. Pokorski maintained the fifth spot throughout the remaining of the race on a fast and narrow racing surface.

After advancing one position in his heat race, Pokorski collected enough passing points to transfer directly into the 25-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main, where he rolled off from the 16th starting position.

With the inside lane serving as the preferred line, Pokorksi stayed low throughout the majority of the race as he moved up to 15th following a caution on lap 15. On the ensuing restart, Pokorski fell back to 18th in the running order after starting on the outside of the eighth row.

Pokorski regrouped to pull off a last-lap pass of Anthony Knierim to secure 17th at the finish of the race, which was won by Justin Erickson.

“The car felt really good for the heat race and I was happy to make the A-main directly out of the heat race,” Pokorski said. “The car was a bit of a handful in the A main. The track was also very one-lane around the bottom, so it was difficult to gain spots. I had moved up a few spots and then lost a couple spots restarting on the outside. I think we have a better sense of how to set up this car now, so hopefully we can be faster moving forward.”

Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will return to action with the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Cars this Saturday, May 28 on Military Night with all members of the U.S. Military gaining free admission with valid identification.

Spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m. with PDTR 360 Sprint Car hot laps/group qualifying at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 17, 2022 – After forgoing last week’s 2022 season opener to attend to his college master’s degree program obligations at Concordia University of Wisconsin, third-year 360 Sprint Car driver Alex Pokorski spent the majority of a Midwest Sprint Car Association doubleheader weekend of action at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, May 14 and Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, May 15 searching for comfort and consistency behind the wheel of his new No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team machine.

After his father, Paul, steered Alex’s Akright Auto Racing Team car to a 10th-place showing in the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car A main at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, May 7, it was Alex’s turn to make his debut in the Spyder Akright-owned No. 4 ride with stellar field of 33 PDTR 360 Sprint Cars signed in at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, May 14.

In PDTR 360 Sprint Car group qualifying, Pokorski turned in the 27th fastest time with a lap of 13.935 seconds. After lining up eighth in the second 10-lap 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski moved past Dylan Winkel to take over seventh on the opening lap. Pokorski maintained the position over the remaining nine laps to secure a seventh-place heat race finish.

Needing to finish in the top six to earn a transfer spot to the 25-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main, Pokorski started sixth in the 15-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car B Main and found himself running fifth following a yellow flag restart on lap 5.

After dueling with Chris Larson two laps, Pokorski maintained fifth in the running order until lap 10 when Larson and Blake Wondra worked past Pokorski, who slipped to seventh, one spot out of an A-main transfer spot.

Pokorski maintained his composure and battled back to work underneath Wondra to steal the sixth and final A-main transfer spot with a nifty move in turn one on the 15th and final circuit. Pokorski held on to place sixth and advance to his first PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main of the 2022 season.

After starting 22nd in the 25-lap main event, Pokorski worked the low groove in the first portion of the race. However, he found passing to be difficult along the inside line. On lap 20, Pokorski ventured up to the high groove to work his way around Preston Ruh into the 21st position, which is where he finished the non-stop race, which was won by Travis Arenz.

“On Saturday at Plymouth, we started pretty far away from what we want the car to do and we got a lot closer as the night went along,” Pokorski said. “The B main was a fun race back and forth for the last few transfer spots. In the A main, starting in the back is always tough. I think I spent too long trying to make the bottom work, but when I moved to the top, I was able to keep pace with the leaders.”

On Sunday, May 16, Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team ventured to Angell Park in Sun Prairie, Wis. for an Akright Auto Parts Midwest Sprint Car Association event, which attracted a 16-car field to the historic venue.

Pokorski started fifth in the first 10-lap MSA heat race before dropping back to seventh on lap 2 when Jack Vanderboom and Travis Arenz slipped past. On lap 5, Pokorski advanced to fifth when Travis Arenz dropped out with a broken axle and race leader Katelyn Krebsbach retired to the pit area with motor issues.

Pokorski went on to finish fifth on the narrow, undulating third-mile clay oval racing surface.

The West Bend driver rolled off ninth in the 25-lap MSA A main and found himself running 11th at the half-way mark of the race. With passing at a premium on the tricky track surface, Pokorski advanced to 10th after ducking underneath Tyler Davis in turn two on lap 19.

However, on the next circuit, Pokorski drifted high in turn four and hit the front stretch wall, which forced him to stop on the track to bring out the race’s lone caution flag. The damage was too extensive for Pokorski to return to the race as he was scored 15th in a race won by Kurt Davis.

“Like Plymouth, I think we had a similar adjustment period at Angell Park, but the car felt good for the feature,” Pokorski said. “That was the roughest track I’ve raced on and it eventually got the better of me when I got out of shape off the cushion in turn four and slapped the wall. We tweaked the Jacob’s ladder and bent the front axle as well.”

Pokorski and the Akright Auto Racing Team will return to action with the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Cars this Saturday, May 21, as part of the fifth-ever appearance of the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprint Car Series at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. in conjunction with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series.

Spectator gates open at 4 p.m. with on-track action slated to begin at 6 p.m. for the all-Sprint Car event, which will be streamed live on FloRacing.

“This week the goal is to keep our nose clean and hopefully finish a little better using what we learned this past weekend on how to set this car up,” Pokorski said.

Paul Pokorski nets top-10 MSA finish in Akright Auto Racing Team guest driving role

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 10, 2022 – While regular Akright Auto Racing Team driver Alex Pokorski was tending to his college obligations, 30-year veteran Paul Pokorski made the most of a fill-in opportunity behind the wheel of the No. 4 360 Sprint Car by charging to a top-10 A-main finish in the 2022 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association season opener at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, May 7.

Pokorski, who was among 27 PDTR-MSA 360 Sprint Car drivers signed in to compete in the 2022 PDTR lid lifter, searched to find his comfort zone in the third 10-lap heat race, as he fell back from his fourth starting spot to finish seventh.

After lining up fourth in the 15-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car B main, Pokorski worked around Chris Larson on the opening lap to advance to third. On lap 5, Bill Taylor dropped Pokorski to fourth. Pokorski used the outside groove to work his way back into third on lap 9.

The 2014 MSA Masters Series champion moved up to second in the running order when Preston Ruh dropped out of the race on lap 10. Two laps later, Larson powered past Pokorski, as the West Bend driver finished third to earn a spot in the 25-lap A main.

Pokorski rolled off 19th in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car headliner and worked primarily the high line around the multi-groove racing surface in the early going to move into 16th on lap 5. After the red flag appeared on lap 7 for a flip involving Will Gerrits, Pokorski moved up to 15th on the restart.

Another red flag was displayed on lap 17 when Ben Schmidt and Brandon McMullen collided in turn three while racing for the lead. Pokorski restarted 12th and advanced to 10th following a yellow flag on lap 18 for Justin Miller’s spin.

Pokorski held strong over the final seven laps to secure a 10th-place finish in a race won by Travis Arenz.

“This car feels different than our own car, so there was a little bit of a learning curve,” Pokorski said. “We also had a couple of little mechanical issues early on that we needed to sort through. All in all, we kept going in the right direction and by feature time, the car was pretty decent. However, the driver was a little rusty!

“I think we did a decent job of tuning it up and getting it going in the right direction for Alex to take over this weekend,” he said.

Alex Pokorski will make his debut in the seat of the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team car for a doubleheader weekend of Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association action beginning Saturday, May 14 at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. and wrapping up on Sunday, May 15 at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis.

Saturday, May 14 is police, fire and emergency medical services night at The Plymouth Dirt Track with all police officers, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel gaining free admission with valid identification.

Spectator gates open at 3:30 p.m. with racing scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, May 14.

On Sunday, May 15, spectator gates open at 4 p.m. with on-track action scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Angell Park Speedway.

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) April 5, 2022 – The 2021 racing season was one to remember for Pokorski Motorsports as the team’s main driver Paul Pokorski wrapped up his tenure as a regular on-track competitor after 29 consecutive highly successful seasons behind the wheel of the No. 4 machine.

Pokorski, who claimed 46 A-main victories and racked up a total of four track and series championships in Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car Winged Super Modified and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series competition for Pokorski Motorsports, shared the seat of the team’s No. 4 360 Sprint Car with his son, Alex, during the “original” Pokorski Motorsports team’s final go around in 2021.

For the upcoming 2022 season, it will be Alex Pokorski’s turn to take center stage as the driver of the No. 4 Akright Auto Racing Team 360 Sprint Car in equipment furnished by Spyder Akright of Akright Auto in Sheboygan Falls, Wis.

Pokorski’s new team is scheduled to hit the track for the first time in the 2022 Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association season opener at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. for the annual Jim Wipperfurth Memorial event on Saturday, April 16.

“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to race this car and so many people around me that help to make it possible,” Alex Pokorski said. “Since I’ve never driven the car before, we are hoping to get out to a practice to shake out any bugs that may occur. We will be starting the season off with the MSA opener at Beaver Dam Raceway on Saturday, April 16. I am currently unsure of how many events we will run. I think the plan is to mainly run Plymouth. We will see about outside shows.

“Some goals I have for the season are to be more consistent and to finish higher in the point standings than we did last year,” he said. “I would like to thank Spyder and Akright Auto for getting me in a car this year. I also am thankful that my parents have helped me to make this possible and for all the work the crew has put in.”

In 29 official Akright Auto Midwest Sprint Car Association events and 27 complete programs in 2021, the Pokorski Motorsports team collected a total of two top-five A-main finishes, seven top-10 A-main showings, one B main victory and three heat race triumphs, while placing 14th in the final MSA standings and 15th in the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car point standings.

In 18 events a year ago, Alex tallied two top-five A-main finishes, five top-10 A-main showings and three heat race victories during the 2021 campaign, including a career-best fourth-place showing in the final non-point MSA event of the season on Saturday, Oct. 2 at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis.

“I would say my highlight for the season last year was the last night finishing fourth at Beaver Dam,” Alex said. “The track at Beaver Dam was a lot of fun to race on and the car felt great.”

Paul capped his 29-year driving career with Pokorski Motorsports by earning two top-10 A-main showings and one B-main victory in 11 events.

While his role will mainly consist of behind-the-scenes support during the 2022 season, Paul says he may have a chance to slip into his driver’s suit a few times this year.

“We are incredibly grateful to Spyder for giving Alex the opportunity to keep racing, since he is doing so well and continuing to improve,” Paul Pokorski said. “Helping Alex should keep me busy, and there may be an opportunity for me to drive a couple of nights this year as well. Our team will still be around as the members of our old Pokorski Motorsports crew will continue to prepare and maintain Alex’s car this year. I’m excited to see where Alex can take it in 2022 and maybe beyond.”

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) November 19, 2021 – The 2021 racing season marked the final go-around for the “original” version of the Pokorski Motorsports team, which was headed up for 29 consecutive seasons by driver Paul Pokorski and his wife, Lynn, since its inception as an Eastern Wisconsin Stock Car Winged Super Modified team in 1993.

Pokorski, who claimed 46 A-main victories and racked up a total of four track and series championships in Winged Super Modified and MSA 360 Sprint Car Series competition for Pokorski Motorsports, also brought his 29-season run as a regular driver to a close during his second consecutive season sharing the seat of the No. 4 360 Sprint Car with his son, Alex.

In 29 official MSA events and 27 complete programs, the Pokorski Motorsports team collected a total of two top-five A-main finishes, seven top-10 A-main showings, one B main victory and three heat race triumphs, while placing 14th in the final MSA standings and 15th in the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car point standings.

Paul opened the 2021 MSA season in the seat of the Pokorski Motorsports car at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Saturday, April 17. The 2014 MSA Masters Series champion was running in the top 10 in the A main when a fuel shut off valve issue forced him to retire from the race and relegated him to a 20th-place showing.

One week later, Paul came home 15th in an MSA A main contested in arctic 30-degree weather at Gravity Park Speedway in Chilton, Wis. on Saturday, April 24. Paul was running in the top-five of the 2021 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car opener at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, May 1 when a smoking motor linked to a magneto issue forced him out of the race with a 22nd-place finish.

The Pokorski Motorsports team then earned its first top-10 A-main showing of the 2021 season when Paul steered the No. 4 car to a 10th-place finish at Beaver Dam Raceway on Friday, May 7.

One night later, Alex made his 2021 debut, which ended with an eighth-place finish in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car B main at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, May 8.

On Saturday, May 15, Alex and Paul competed on the same night for what proved to be the only time during the 2021 season with Alex in the seat of the Pokorski Motorsports car and Paul behind the wheel of Spyder Akright’s 53A Akright Auto machine at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

Alex’s night ended with a seventh-place finish in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car B main contested on a lightning-fast track surface. Paul brought the Akright Auto car home 15th in the A main before disaster struck shortly after the checkered flag fell.

Seconds after taking the checkered flag, Paul had to take drastic measures to avoid a rapidly slowing car, which resulted in him making heavy impact with the turn one wall and flipping the 53A car. Paul was able to emerge from the severely damaged car under his own power. However, the Akright Auto car, which Paul had planned to drive several more times during the 2021 campaign, proved to be a total loss and remained on the sidelines for the rest of the year.

On Saturday, May 22, Alex wound up ninth in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car B main at The Plymouth Dirt Track. Alex was on hand for an MSA event at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, May 23. However, rain forced the A main to be cancelled.

Alex advanced to his first A main of the season on Saturday, May 29 at The Plymouth Dirt Track as he came home with a 19th-place main event finish.

One week later, Alex posted his career-best A-main showing after delivering a 16th-place showing in the main event at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, June 5 held in conjunction with the annual appearance of the national touring FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprint Car Series.

On Saturday, June 12, Alex wound up fifth in the second PDTR 360 Sprint Car B main at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

Paul was back behind the wheel of the Pokorski Motorsports car for the annual Hagar Nelson Memorial event at Outagamie Speedway Powered by EWSC Racing in Seymour, Wis. on Friday, June 18. Paul was running in the top 15 in the A main when a smoking engine due to a valve cover gasket failure forced him out of the race en route to a 23rd-place finish.

Alex got on track in a big way on Saturday, June 19 has he advanced 10 spots in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main to advance from his 21st starting spot to a career-best 11th-place finish at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

Paul steered the No. 4 car to a 17th-place finish in a special PDTR 360 Sprint Car event on Friday, June 25 at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

Alex again turned in an impressive performance during a special event at The Plymouth Dirt Track held in conjunction with the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series weekend at nearby Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis. on Thursday, July 1. After starting 22nd in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main, Alex stormed up 11 spots to notch his second straight 11th-place main event showing.

On Saturday, July 10, Alex earned his first career heat race victory and a 20th-place finish in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

Alex tallied a 16th-place A-main showing in PDTR 360 Sprint Car A-main action at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, July 17. One week later, during the Dave Deicher Tribute Night event at The Plymouth Dirt Track, Alex turned in his first career top-10 A-main showing by notching a career-best ninth place finish in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car headliner on Saturday, July 24.

After starting on the pole of the PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main on July 31, Alex lead the 17 laps of the 25-lap headliner before finishing a career-best fifth to record his first career top-five A-main showing. One night later, Alex returned to Angell Park Speedway where he turned in a strong eighth-place A-main finish on Sunday, Aug. 1.

On Saturday, Aug. 14, Alex came home 19th in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main at The Plymouth Dirt Track. Alex’s first appearance of the 2021 season at Beaver Dam Raceway on Saturday, Aug. 28 proved to be a rough one as a flip on the opening lap of his heat race forced the team to scratch for the remainder of the program.

Paul was back in the driver’s seat for the annual Sheboygan County Fair race at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, Sept. 4, during which he recorded a 12th-place A-main showing.

A mysterious rear-end gear issue hampered Paul throughout the night in PDTR 360 Sprint Car action at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, Sept. 11 as his night ended with an 11th-place finish in the B main.

Alex was back behind the wheel at Gravity Park Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 18 where he posted a sixth-place A-main finish on a rubbered-up track surface.

Paul capped the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing season with a 14th-place finish in A-main action on Saturday, Sept. 25 in the final regular points race of the 2021 PDTR and MSA seasons.

Paul closed out his 29-season tenure with the “original” Pokorski Motorsports team by notching a season-best eighth-place showing in a non-points MSA A-main at Beaver Dam Raceway on Friday, Oct. 1.

Alex wrapped up the 2021 season with a career-best fourth-place A-main finish in the final race for the “original” Pokorski Motorsports team at Beaver Dam Raceway on Saturday, Oct. 2.

In 18 events, Alex tallied two top-five A-main finishes, five top-10 A-main showings and three heat race victories during the 2021 campaign.

“I would say my highlight for the season was the last night finishing fourth at Beaver Dam,” Alex said. “The track at Beaver Dam was a lot of fun to race on and the car felt great.

“If I could have one night back, it would be when I led the first 17 laps of the feature at Plymouth,” he said. “I wish I would’ve been more aggressive with lapped traffic. I think our finishes improved during the course of the season due to me learning to be more consistent with my driving, as well as our set ups getting better. I have to thank my parents for getting me into the car so frequently this season and trusting in my abilities. Our crew and the sponsors were all great. We can’t do it without them and they make race nights more fun. Racing is a big family event for us and I’ve really enjoyed all the support from them and my girlfriend. I think our fan base also grew a bit this year and I enjoyed forming some new relationships with them.”

Paul capped his 29-year driving career with Pokorski Motorsports by earning two top-10 A-main showings and one B-main victory in 11 events.

With the 2022 season just around the corner, Alex and Paul and the rest of the Pokorski Motorsports crew has been hard at work preparing for a new venture with Spyder Akright’s Akright Auto 360 Sprint Car racing team for the 2022 season.

“We are selling part of our equipment to a young man who has never raced anything before, so I plan to try to help him and his father, offering as much help as they want from me to help them along,” Paul said. “Alex has been given a one-year deal to drive for Spyder Akright and Akright Auto for about 75 percent of the MSA races, mostly at Plymouth.

“We [Pokorski Motorsports] will be housing that car, freshening it over the winter and doing the week-to-week maintenance during the season,” he said. “We are incredibly grateful to Spyder for giving Alex the opportunity to keep racing, since he is doing so well and continuing to improve. Those two things should keep me busy, and there may be an opportunity for me to drive a couple of nights next year as well. We will see how much time and energy I have left. Our team will still be around. It will just look pretty different. It was a good last year for ‘the original Pokorski Motorsports.’ I’m excited to see where Alex can take it in 2022 and maybe beyond.”

Alex is also thankful for the opportunity to continue his Sprint Car racing career under the Akright Auto banner in 2022.

“Pokorski Motorsports has been an awesome program that we have shared with family and friends,” Alex said. “I’ve really enjoyed being a part of it. Hopefully, this is just a break and I can start it back up in a few years once I’m out of college.

“Next year I am happy to be partnering up with Spyder [Steve] Akright and the Akright Auto team,” he said. “Our plan is to have two cars. Spyder will run one car and I will run the other. We won’t run every show, but we will try to race as many nights as we can. I would like to thank him for the opportunity and I’m excited to see what we can do next season.”

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) October 5, 2021 – After 29 years of open-wheel racing competition on dirt tracks throughout the state of Wisconsin, the Pokorski Motorsports wrapped up its highly successful tenure as a racing team with a pair of strong performances, during a non-points Midwest Sprint Car Association doubleheader weekend of action at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. Friday, Oct. 1 and Saturday, Oct. 2.

The first half of the two-night event, which was contested as part of the Wingless Nationals featuring the Wisconsin WingLESS Sprint Car Series, saw 29-year veteran Paul Pokorski step into the seat of the No. 4 Pokorski Motorsports car with an impressive field of 28 MSA 360 Sprint Cars on hand.

Pokorski, who claimed 46 A-main victories and racked up a total of four track and series championships in Winged Super Modified and MSA 360 Sprint Car Series competition for Pokorski Motorsports, opened the night by qualifying 10th with a lap of 13.348 seconds.

Pokorski was scheduled to start from the pole of the first 10-lap MSA heat race. However, the team was penalized to the rear of the field at the start after being late to the staging area.

After starting seventh, Pokorski worked his way past Josh Teunissen on lap 8 and Tyler Brabant on the final lap to finish fifth and earn a spot in the A main based on the MSA’s heat race passing points formula.

Pokorski lined up 13th in the 25-lap MSA A main and rode in the 13th spot on the fast and tacky track surface until a caution flag appeared on lap 11 when Tyler Tischendorf and Bill Taylor collided along the front stretch.

On the restart, Lance Fassbender flipped in turn two after contact with Matt Rechek and Tyler Davis. During the incident, Pokorski made contact with Tim Haddy, which resulted in a flat right rear tire on Pokorski’s car.

After going to the work area to change the flat tire, Pokorski restarted 12th as the final car on the lead lap. The West Bend driver went to work over the final 14 laps to move past Jason Johnson for 11th on lap 13 before working around Scott Conger, Nick Daywalt and Katelyn Krebsbach in the closing laps en route to a personal season-best eighth-place A-main finish in a race won by Travis Arenz.

Paul Pokorski closed out his 29-year tenure as a driver for Pokorski Motorsports with a personal season-best eighth-place finish in the 2021 season-ending 25-lap Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car A main at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, Oct. 1. – RC Custom Design photo

“Friday night was okay,” Pokorski said. “The car was a little tight, and we kept working on it. I was reasonably happy with the eighth-place result given we had to make a trip to the work area with the flat right rear. We made some pretty significant changes overnight to try and help Alex on Saturday and the changes seemed to work.”

On Saturday, Oct. 2, Alex Pokorski took another turn at the wheel of the Pokorski Motorsports car to close out the 2021 MSA campaign.

With 21 MSA 360 Sprint Cars on hand, Alex qualified fourth with a lap of 13.273 seconds before lining up second in the second 10-lap MSA heat race. Alex settled into second place on the opening lap and mainly rode the cushion of the well-manicured track surface en route to a second-place showing.

After starting fifth in the season-ending 25-lap A main, Alex fell back to seventh in the early going. On lap 5, Alex worked the high line to move past Donny Goeden to take sixth.

One lap later, Alex powered around Jordan Paulsen with a high move in turn two to take over fifth. After a red flag appeared on lap 8 for a flip involving Tim Haddy, Alex restarted fourth and he held the fourth position throughout the final 17 laps to record his career-best MSA finish and second top-five A-main showing of the 2021 season in a race won by Jack Vanderboom.

“The crew did a great job to make the car fast the whole night and I was able to search around and find what lines worked best,” Alex said. “The track in the feature was a lot of fun to race on and I’m happy to close off the year on a high.”

Paul was also pleased with Alex’s performance on Saturday night.

“We are very proud of Alex and how well he did all year and to finish the year with a career-best finish is pretty fantastic,” Paul said. “It was a great last weekend for racing. We had great weather and good results for us.”

Although Pokorski Motorsports may be ending in its original form, that doesn’t mean Alex, Paul and the members of the Pokorski Motorsports crew won’t be actively engaged in 360 Sprint Car racing in 2022.

“We are very grateful to Spyder for giving Alex the opportunity to keep racing, since he is doing so well and continuing to improve.

Hopefully this is just a break and I can start it back up in a few years once I’m out of college.

In 29 official and 27 complete MSA events, the Pokorski Motorsports team collected two top-five A-main finishes, seven top-10 A-main showings, one B main victory and three heat race triumphs, while placing 14th in the final MSA standings and 15th in the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car point standings.

Alex Pokorski racks top-10 MSA run at Gravity Park Speedway

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 21, 2021 – After a three-week break from competition, second-year 360 Sprint Car driver Alex Pokorski returned to the cockpit of the No. 4 Pokorski Motorsports machine to post his fourth top-10 A-main showing of the 2021 campaign in an Akright Auto Parts of Sheboygan Falls Midwest Sprint Car Association main event at Gravity Park Speedway in Chilton, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 18.

With 18 MSA 360 Sprint Cars signed in for the second event of the 2021 season on the quarter-mile Gravity Park Speedway bullring, Pokorski lined up fourth in the first 10-lap MSA heat race.

Track conditions proved to dictate the evening as the surface began taking rubber early in the event, which was held as part of the annual Chilton Fall Classic featuring competition in eight different divisions over two nights.

Pokorski held tight to the bottom of the rubber-filled track throughout the heat race and was close enough to take advantage when Tony Wondra drifted high and slipped out of the rubber on the final lap. Pokorski ducked underneath Wondra in turn three on the final circuit to claim a third-place finish.

The West Bend native earned the sixth starting spot in the 25-lap MSA A main and maintained his line along the rubber-laden low groove throughout the event and enduring three caution flags en route to a sixth-place showing in a race won by Tony Wondra.

“The track only had one fast groove due to rubber being laid down,” Pokorski said. “My approach was to get down into the groove as quickly as possible and wait for people to make mistakes in front of me. You have to conserve your tires when the track takes rubber, so it’s just about avoiding mistakes and saving tires. I’m happy to finish sixth. I felt I was faster than one or two cars in front of me, but they didn’t make mistakes.”

The Pokorski Motorsports team will close out the 2021 Midwest Sprint Car Association points season with a doubleheader weekend of action starting Friday, Sept. 24 with an MSA 360 Sprint Car event held in memory of Fuzzy Fassbender, Harry Neitzel and Rick Schmidt at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, Wis. The Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Cars and Wisconsin WingLESS Sprint Cars will also be on the card for the all-Sprint Car event.

On-track action will begin at 5:50 p.m. with qualifying and racing to follow.

The team will cap the 2021 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car and MSA points campaigns at the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships on Saturday, Sept. 25 at The Plymouth Dir Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis.

The Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships will feature the final points races of the season for the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Cars, Wisconsin Wingless Sprint Cars, Midwest Sprint Car Association Sprint Cars, PDTR 360 Sprint Cars and IRA Lightning Sprints with 2021 champions crowned in all five divisions.

Pit gates open at 1 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 4 p.m., followed by hot laps at 5 p.m. with qualifying and racing to follow.

Paul Pokorski will be in the seat of the No. 4 Pokorski Motorsports 360 Sprint Car for both events.

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 7, 2021 – After over two months away from the driver’s seat, 29-year veteran Paul Pokorski returned to the cockpit of the No. 4 Pokorski Motorsports 360 Sprint Car during the annual Sheboygan County Fair race at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 4.

With 30 PDTR 360 Sprint Cars on hand and a large crowd of spectators in attendance for the Fair Night event, Pokorski started third in the third 10-lap 360 Sprint Car heat race.

After settling into the third spot at the start, the 2014 Midwest Sprint Car Association Masters Series champion ducked low to move past Chris Larson in turn one on lap three.

Pokorski was reeling in the first-place car of Kurt Davis when the caution flag flew for a spin involving Chris Clayton and Justin Miller in turn two on lap 5.

On the restart, Lance Fassbender worked around Pokorski to take over second and move the West Bend driver back to third in the running order, which is where he finished the race.

Pokorski then started 11th in the 25-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car  A main and utilized the low groove in the early stages of the race to hold down the 11th spot. After the lone caution flag appeared on lap 7 for debris, Pokorski fell back to 13th on the restart.

Starting on lap 14, the low-riding Pokorski engaging in a heated duel with the cushion-pounding machine of Tyler Brabant. Pokorski outbattled Brabant in the closing stages of the race to secure the 12th spot at the conclusion of the race, which was won by Travis Arenz.

“The car was good but not great,” Pokorski said. “The driver was a little rusty. I felt really odd actually. I would have really liked to get out and run on the top, but it seems like the bottom was the way to go most of the night. We’re fighting a little gremlin that makes it difficult to drive at times. We can’t quite figure it out. Alex was struggling with the same thing from time to time.

“I will be in the car again next Saturday and will change some things and see if we can’t figure out our issue,” he said. “I was happy to get through the night with no major issues.”

The Pokorski Motorsports team is set to return to action with Paul Pokorski in the driver’s seat at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 11.

Unlucky turn spoils Alex Pokorski’s MSA run at Beaver Dam Raceway

By Jeff Pederson-Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 31, 2021 – What started as a promising evening of Midwest Sprint Car Association action, turned in an instant for upstart second-year 360 Sprint Car competitor Alex Pokorski, resulting in a significantly damaged race car and an early end to the team’s efforts at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Saturday, Aug. 28.

Pokorski was among 32 MSA 360 Sprint Car drivers to sign in for the series’ third appearance of the 2021 season at high-banked Beaver Dam Raceway third-mile clay oval.

The West Bend driver opened the evening on a strong note by ripping off the eighth-fastest lap in MSA 360 Sprint Car group qualifying with a lap of 13.057 seconds.

However, the third 10-lap MSA heat was not kind to Alex and the Pokorski Motorsports team as the third-starting Pokorski lost control and flipped in turn two on the opening circuit.

Pokorski was uninjured in the incident, and he was scored seventh in the race. However, his No. 4 Petersen Septic Systems-sponsored machine suffered extensive damage, which forced the team to scratch from the remainder of the program.

“The car was a little tight for qualifying, but we were still able to put a good lap in,” Pokorski said. “In the first corner of the heat race, the car just bicycled on me and I couldn’t save it. We wrecked three shocks, the rear end, torque tube, radius rods and of course both wings.”

The team was scheduled to compete in a Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car program on Friday, Aug. 27 in conjunction with the Dirt Kings Late Model Tour with Paul Pokorski behind the wheel. However, that event was cancelled due to rain.

The Pokorski Motorsports team will not compete in the fifth annual Midwest Sprint Car Association Harry Neitzel Tribute Race at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, Sept. 3.

The following night, the team is scheduled to return to action at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. during the Sheboygan County Fair for an all-Sprint Car program also featuring the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series.

Hot laps are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. with IRA qualifying at 5 p.m.

Alex Pokorski posts first MSA top-10 in PDTR Dave Deicher Tribute

Second-year 360 Sprint Car driver Alex Pokorski of West Bend collected his first career Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car A-main top-10 finish with a ninth-place showing in the special 26-lap Dave Deicher Tribute Night Race at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 24. – RC Custom Design photo

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 27, 2021 – Second-year Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car driver Alex Pokorski continued his upward progression behind the wheel by notching is first career top-10 A-main showing in the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Dave Deicher Tribute Night main event at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 24.

Pokorski was one of 25 PDTR 360 Sprint Car drivers to sign in for the special event, which was held in honor of longtime racer and PDTR and MSA flagman Dave Deicher, who passed away in May.

The West Bend driver drew the eighth starting spot in the second 10-lap 360 Sprint Car heat race and quickly moved up to seventh by passing Preston Ruh in the third turn of the opening lap.

On lap 4, the red flag was displayed for a flip involving Ben Schmidt, which moved Pokorski up to sixth on the ensuing restart. Pokorski powered past rookie Katelyn Krebsbach on the restart to assume fifth before setting his sets on the fourth-place car of Cole Possi.

On lap 6, Pokorski worked past Possi to secure fourth, which is where he finished the race to lock himself into his seventh 360 Sprint Car A-main of the 2021 season in 11 starts and 10th overall main event in 20 career events.

Pokorski rolled off a career-best fifth in the special 26-lap Dave Deicher Tribute 360 Sprint Car A main and held his own at the front of the field in the early going on the wide, smooth and slick racing surface.

After Brandon McMullen and Travis Arenz passed the No. 4 Pokorski Motorsports machine, Pokorski found himself running eighth when the lone yellow flag of the race appeared for Tyler Brabant, who spun in turn two while running third.

Pokorski restarted in the seventh spot and worked the high and low grooves over the final 11 laps in search of the fast way around the third-mile clay oval. In the closing laps Justin Erickson and Chris Clayton worked past Pokorski before the checkered flag fell on his career-best ninth-place A-main finish in a race won by Brandon McMullen.

“We were unlucky with the heat race draw, but we were able to pass four cars and get into the invert for the A main,” Pokorski said. “The car felt good in both the heat and feature. It felt good to be in the top 10. That was a goal of mine. Next, we will aim for a top five.

“I would like to thank Goeden Auto Body and Pedal Down Promotions for stepping up to offer $200 in sponsor challenge money if we would have won a heat race, B main or A main on Saturday night,” he said. “Even though we didn’t get that done, we appreciate the support.”

The Pokorski Motorsports team is now set to compete in a Midwest Sprint Car Association doubleheader with Alex Pokorski in the driver’s seat both nights starting at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 31 in an all-open wheel event alongside the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series and Badger Midgets.

For those unable to attend, the race will be broadcast live on FloRacing.

Spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, Aug. 1, the team will make its second appearance of the season at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. with the MSA 360 Sprint Cars joined by the Wisconsin wingLESS Sprint Cars and Badger Midgets.

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 20, 2021 – One week after notching his first career heat race victory, second-year Pokorski Motorsports 360 Sprint Car competitor Alex Pokorski continued his progression as he found himself in the mix for a possible career-best A-main showing in his sixth Plymouth Dirt Track Racing main event of the 2021 season at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 17.

Pokorski was among 30 PDTR 360 Sprint Car drivers to sign in for the 12th event of the 2021 season at The Plymouth Dirt Track and his 19th overall career event behind the wheel of a 360 Sprint Car.

After lining up fifth in the third 10-lap heat race, Pokorski passed Scott Conger on the opening lap to move up to fourth. On lap 2, Adam Miller ducked under Pokorski, following a bobble in turn two, which dropped the West Bend driver back to fifth in the running order. However, Pokorski recovered to slip underneath Miller on lap 9 en route to a fourth-place finish and a berth in his sixth 25-lap A main of the 2021 PDTR season in 10 starts.

After rolling off 15th, Pokorski worked the high and low grooves of the wide, smooth and slick track surface to move past Blake Wondra into 11th place on lap 9. Following a series of three consecutive caution flags on lap 13 and 14, Pokorski continued to hold down the 11th spot, while taking aim at a career-best top-10 showing.

However, Pokorski found the going rough in the closing five laps as he fell back to finish 16th in his ninth career 360 Sprint Car A-main event, which won by Brandon McMullen.

“The car felt really good for the heat race and we were fast,” Pokorski said. “I made a couple of mistakes early on, but I was able to race back into fourth on the last lap. The A main went fairly well until the last few laps. Early on I was lucky to miss a couple of pile ups and I was able to move forward a few spots. For the last couple laps, I probably should’ve moved back to the top, but I tried to make the bottom work and ended up losing some spots.

“Moving forward, my focus is eliminating mistakes because even one or two mistakes in a race usually end up costing you a few spots,” he said.

The Pokorski Motorsports team will be in action The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 24 with Alex Pokorski scheduled to be in the driver’s seat for PDTR’s Dave Deicher Tribute Night program, which will feature 360 Sprint Cars, Late Models, Grand Nationals B Mods and a special appearance from the Vintage Modifieds.

Spectator gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 5:30 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m.

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 13, 2021 – Second-year Pokorski Motorsports 360 Sprint Car driver Alex Pokorski experienced the high of earning his first career heat race victory and the low of having a potential career-best A-main run spoiled by early contact with another car, during a Plymouth Dirt Track Racing program at The Plymouth Dirt Tack at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 10.

Pokorski was among 31 PDTR 360 Sprint Car drivers to sign in for the 11th racing program of the 2021 season at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

The West Bend driver shook off a season-long streak of poor heat race pill draws by drawing the pole position of the fourth 10-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race.

Pokorski took advantage of his opportunity to start at the front of a heat race for the first time this season by outpowering outside front row starter Doug Wondra to grab the lead on the opening lap.

Pokorski survived one caution flag restart for a spin involving Adam Miller on lap 3 to pull away over the final seven laps to collect his first career 360 Sprint Car heat race victory.

The heat race win allowed Pokorski to earn his best career A-main starting spot as he rolled off seventh in the 25-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car main event.

However, the promise of a strong A-main finish was dashed on lap 2 when Matt Rechek collided with Pokorski along the backstretch to bring out of the lone caution flag of the race. After retreating to the work area, Pokorski returned to restart the race from the 21st spot.

Pokorski rode the low line on the smooth and black slick track surface throughout the final 23 laps en route to a 20th-place finish in a race won by Will Gerrits.

“It was really nice to finally start on the front row of a heat race and I was able to be smooth and get the win,” Pokorski said. “The feature was a bit of a bummer because I felt we could’ve had a sixth- or seventh-place finish if we didn’t have the incident on lap 2. Luckily, we didn’t have major damage and we were able to finish the race.”

The Pokorski Motorsports team is scheduled to return to action at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 17 with Alex Pokorski scheduled to be in the driver’s seat for a PDTR program, which will featured 360 Sprint Cars, Late Models, Grand Nationals and B Mods.
