(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 26, 2020 – After waiting six long weeks to open the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) public health emergency, the Pokorski Motorsports team made its maiden trek to Gravity Park Speedway in Chilton Wis. for the Quarantine 30 presented by Professional Plating Inc. on Saturday, May 23.

Paul Pokorski began his 28th season of open-wheel competition by timing in 12th out of 19 competitors in 360 Sprint Car qualifying on the tight quarter-mile Gravity Park Speedway bullring.

However, that proved to be the only competitive laps Pokorski would turn for the remainder of the evening as a cylinder issue was diagnosed immediately after qualifying, which forced the team to withdraw from further competition.

The Quarantine 30 A main was later cancelled after a steady rain shower moved over the track after the completion of the heat races in all three divisions.

“I noticed the engine problem in hot lapping, but we didn’t know what it was at that time,” Pokorski said. “After qualifying, we found the problem, which proved to be a broken push rod.”

Pokorski, who plans to share the No. 4 Pokorski Motorsports machine with his 21-year-old son, Alex, this season, will again be in the seat when Plymouth Dirt Track Racing opens its 2020 season at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, June 6.

“Having the push rod break was just one of those things that happens in racing,” Pokorski said. “We will get the problem fixed and move forward. We will definitely be ready for the Plymouth opener on June 6th.”

Looking ahead, the Midwest Sprint Car Association event at Angell park Speedway, originally scheduled for Sunday, June 7, has been cancelled. In addition, an MS at the Outagamie Speedway Powered by EWSC Racing on Friday, June 19 has also been cancelled.

Sponsors for the 2020 Pokorski Motorsports team are Hopf Farms, Petersen Septic Systems, Quest Engineering Inc., Goeden’s Auto Body, Goodwin Racing Engines, Lakeshore Family Funeral Homes, Kettle Moraine Landscaping, Novak’s Service Center, Pedal Down Promotions, Tisler Salvage Inc., Allied Bearing Corporation and The Cawley Company.

Pokorski Motorsports preps to drop hammer on 2019 campaign

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) April 1, 2019 – While he is certainly far from a newcomer to the 360 Sprint Car racing scene, the start of a new racing season still ignites a twinge of excitement for 2014 Midwest Sprint Car Association Masters Series Champion Paul Pokorski.

In fact, the 26-year racing veteran exudes the enthusiasm of a rookie when discussing the upcoming 2019 racing season, which kicks off Saturday, April 27 at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis.

A year ago, the West Bend competitor recorded the team’s most consistent season in 14 years by completing every lap of every A main he competed in during the 2018 campaign, while managing to avoid major accidents or mechanical breakdowns.

In addition, Pokorski racked up five top-five A-main finishes, 16 top-10 A-main showings and five heat race triumphs in 24 events during the 2018 campaign.

“The 2018 was really good…not great, but really good,” Pokorski said. “I was very happy with our consistency and having no wrecks.  I was a little disappointed that I did not win a feature, but we did come close a few times.”

In preparation for the 2019 campaign, Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports crew have experienced a few challenges in upgrading the team’s equipment and aligning with the latest safety updates.

“My approach did not go as planned,” Pokorski said. “We started out on schedule, got everything apart and sent out to some of our service providers and partners, but then hit a few snags.  I was not going to do the new safety updates to the roll cage for 2019 and do it next year instead. Then I decided at kind of the last minute that I should make the update. That set us behind a little. Then we found out that a rear end we sent in for routine service had some issues and I ended up replacing it. Not a huge deal, but we had put an older rear end in the car. Since we have a new one, I had the guys take the old one out and re-install the new one.

“We also decided to change out some body work to save sponsor Goeden’s Auto Body some headaches,” he said. “That resulted in a long wait on some parts that we did not anticipate. In the end, everything is coming together and we hope to be at practice on April 13 in Plymouth.”

The three-time Eastern Wisconsin Conference Winged Super Modified champion is again aiming to chase the entire MSA and PDTR 360 Sprint Car schedules in 2019, after placing fourth in the MSA and fifth in the PDTR standings last year.

“We are planning on running the full MSA schedule,” Pokorski said. “An IRA race or two may sneak in there. I think the MSA schedule for 2019 is almost ideal. It covers the area most of our drivers wish to cover.  We get to go to a few tracks that are not traditional Sprint Car hot spots, which is fun for everyone. There is a variety on track size and surfaces. I can’t wait.”

In nailing down goals for 2019, Pokorski is eager to return to victory lane for the first time since May 27, 2017.

“My goal for 2019 is to try to be as consistent as 2018 with a win or maybe two along the way,” Pokorski said. “I’m ambitious, but appreciative and realistic.  I’ve had a really good career and have no complaints.”

Along with welcoming back all of its 2018 sponsors, Pokorski Motorsports is pleased that Hopf Farms and Gasroots Project are joining the fold in 2019.

“We are very happy to have an associate sponsorship from Hopf Farms, and a one-year grant from the Gasroots Project on board for 2019,” Pokorski said. “All of our sponsors from the past several seasons are returning as well.  I’m very thankful for them all.”

The 2019 Pokorski Motorsports team includes crew chief Dave Schultz, Randy Leamer, Dan Hoerig, Ian Schultz, Aaron Pederson, Alex Pokorski, Lynn Pokorski, Heather Pokorski, Sheila Leamer, Chuck Tuschl, Karin Tuschl and Melissa Schultz.

Sponsors for the 2019 Pokorski Motorsports team are Hopf Farms, Gasroots Project, Quest Engineering Inc., Acme Armature Works Inc., Goeden’s Auto Body, Goodwin Racing Engines, Jens, Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Services & Crematory, Kettle Moraine Landscaping, Novak’s Service Center, Pedal Down Promotions, Tisler Salvage Inc., Allied Bearing Corporation and The Cawley Company.

Pokorski Motorsports tunes up with solid IRA run

Rescheduled PDTR opener on tap Saturday, May 5

By Jeff Pederson-Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 2, 2018 – After unseasonably cold weather conditions forced the cancellation of the 2018 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing opener at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, April 28, Paul Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports team ventured to the Beaver Dam Raceway Sunday, April 29 to participate in the Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car season opener.

While the race was not originally in the team’s weekend plans, Pokorski made a late decision to enter the event with the intention of using the bonus competitive laps to test and tune the team’s 2016 Maxim in preparation for the upcoming PDTR/MSA 360 Sprint Car season.

With dry slick track conditions during the late afternoon event serving to trim the horsepower gap between the high-horsepower IRA cars and Pokorski’s 360 machine, the West Bend competitor enjoyed a productive start to his 26th season of racing.

Pokorski turned in a solid qualifying effort to time in 13th in the 27-car field, which placed him in the sixth starting spot in the first IRA heat race. A bold low pass on Jereme Schroeder vaulted the 2014 MSA Masters Series champion to fifth on the opening lap of the 10-lap heat race, which is where he stayed for the remainder of the event to earn a transfer spot to the 30-lap IRA A-main event.

Pokorski rolled off from the 15th starting spot in the A-main and worked the low groove past several top IRA competitors, including eight-time IRA champion Bill Balog and two-time IRA champ Scotty Neitzel in the opening laps.

After running as high as 11th over the first 10 laps of the event, Pokorski turned in a smooth effort along the low line of the third-mile clay oval to finish with a 15th-place showing in a race won by Steve Meyer.

With our opener at Plymouth cancelled by weather, we wanted to get the car on the track this weekend to test some things out and get a feel for it,” Pokorski said. “All in all, everything went well and now we are really looking forward to starting off our PDTR and MSA points season this Saturday at Plymouth.”

The Pokorski Motorsports team is now scheduled to open its 2018 PDTR/MSA campaign at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth on Saturday, May 5.

The event will feature an earlier start time with the grandstand scheduled to open at 2:30 p.m., hot laps slated for 3:30 p.m. and racing set to begin at 4 p.m.

The Pokorski Motorsports sponsors for the 2018 season include: Quest Engineering Inc., Acme Armature Works Inc., Goeden’s Auto Body, Goodwin Racing Engines, Jens, Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Services & Crematory, Kettle Moraine Landscaping, Novak’s Service Center, Pedal Down Promotions, Tisler Salvage Inc., Allied Bearing Corporation and The Cawley Company.

Pokorski Motorsports closes out 25th anniversary season on high note

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) October 4, 2017 – Paul Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports team completed their 25th season of competition with a strong fourth-place A-main showing in the 2017 Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car finale Saturday, Sept. 30, at The Plymouth Dirt Track on the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds.

With a stellar field of 33 PDTR/MSA 360 Sprint Cars signed in, Pokorski lined up on the outside of the front row of the second PDTR/MSA heat race. The 2014 MSA Masters Series champion outpowered polesitter Chris Clayton to seize the lead in turn two of the opening circuit.

Pokorski then proceeded to open up a half-straightaway cushion over Clayton, which he maintained throughout the 10-lap event en route to his second heat race victory of the 2017 season.

The impressive heat race run gave Pokorski the third starting spot in the PDTR-MSA A-main with former PDTR-MSA champions Kurt Davis and Danny Schlafer lined up ahead of him on the front row and newly crowned 2017 PDTR 360 Sprint Car champion Brandon McMullen to his right in the fourth starting position.

Pokorski was running fourth behind Davis, Schlafer and McMullen when the first caution flag of the race flew on lap 4,. On the ensuing restart, Davis and Schlafer collided in turn two to bring out another caution, which relegated both drivers to the rear of the field.

After restarting second, Pokorski dropped to fourth when Ben Schmidt and Kevin Karnitz both slipped by before Dick Kaiser mounted a charge to work past Pokorski two laps later. The West Bend driver spent the majority of the race locked in a duel with Justin Miller for fifth place.

As the laps wound down, Pokorski found his groove on the dry, slick track to hold off Miller for the position. With two laps to go, Pokorski reeled in Dick Kaiser to take over fourth place in the running order.

Pokorski then held on secure his sixth top-five A-main finish of the season as Brandon McMullen claimed the victory to wrap up the 2017 PDTR 360 Sprint Car title and his third straight MSA championship.

The car was just about perfect in the heat race,” Pokorski said. “We tweaked a few things for the main, but didn’t tighten it up enough. We were afraid the track would take rubber earlier and we didn’t want to go too far.”

After being hampered by bad luck and mechanical gremlins during first few months of the year, which forced him to race the team’s backup car in several events, Pokorski rallied over the second half of the season to place ninth in the PDTR 360 Sprint Car point standings and seventh in the MSA points rundown.

In 21 PDTR/MSA events, Pokorski posted one A-main victory (May 27), two heat race wins, six top-five A-main finishes and 12 top-10 A-main showings.

I’m happy with the way the second half of the season went,” Pokorski said. “We’ve been running well lately, and I’m really sorry that the end of the season is here. I can’t wait for next year. We don’t have any major changes planned. Our goal is to work hard and be as prepared as possible.”

The Pokorski Motorsports sponsors for the 2017 season include: Acme Armature Works Inc., Goeden’s Auto Body, Goodwin Racing Engines, Jens, Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Services & Crematory, Kettle Moraine Landscaping, Novak’s Service Center, Pedal Down Promotions, Christel Sign, Tisler Salvage Inc. and The Cawley Company.

Pokorski Motorsports picks up another top-10 showing

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 9, 2017 – Paul Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports team kept a recent string of top-10 A-main finishes in 360 Sprint Car action alive at the 21st annual Frank Filskov Memorial event Saturday, Aug. 5, at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis.

Racing action was delayed for over an hour after showers moved through the Plymouth area just prior to hot laps. After some quick work from the Plymouth track crew, the evening resumed with racey track conditions prevailing throughout the program.

With 28 PDTR 360 Sprint Cars on hand, Pokorski lined up fourth in the third heat race. The 2014 Midwest Sprint Car Association Masters Series champion found himself locked in a battle with Dick Kaiser in the early going of the 10-lap heat race.

After going back and forth with Kaiser over the first three laps, Pokorski seized the position for good on lap 4. The 25-year veteran went on to post a fourth-place showing to earn a spot among the 16 drivers transferring directly to the A main.

After the passing points were tallied from the heat races, Pokorski started the 27-lap A main from the 16th position. After a strong start in the opening laps, Pokorski settled into the 12th spot on lap 5.

As Pokorski worked the middle to the top of the track in an attempt to move up through the field, disaster struck ahead of him on lap 16 as a five-car incident brought out a red flag involving Lance Fassbender and Doug Wondra, who each flipped hard after tangling in turn one.

The incident happened just ahead of Pokorski, who luckily was able to move high to avoid the melee. The accident forced four cars out the race and vaulted Pokorski to the 10th spot when the race resumed.

On lap 18, Pokorski worked around Scott Conger to assume ninth. Pokorski held on to ninth at the finish to post the team’s third straight top-10 finish.

“I thought the track was really good considering the fact that they got rained on twice right before we got started,” Pokorski said. “I would have loved to have seen the track without the rain. I think it would have been even better.

“The car was decent all night, we just had some unfortunate circumstances,” he said. “I saw the wreck in turn one and got tapped just a little bit by one of the cars involved as I went past. That was too close for comfort.”

This weekend Pokorski Motorsports is set to compete in the final MSA Saturday-Sunday doubleheader of the 2017 racing season Saturday, Aug. 12 at Plymouth and Sunday, Aug. 13 at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie.

“I’m really looking forward to another two-day weekend,” Pokorski said. “The car counts for the MSA traveling events have been great this year and I hope that continues.

“I wish we had a few more doubleheaders left this year,” he said. “I’m disappointed that’s the last one of the season already. The summer goes by way too fast.”

This Saturday, Aug. 12 is Past Champions Night at The Plymouth Dirt Track. Pokorski, who won back-to-back Winged Super Modified championships at the Plymouth track in 2003 and 2004, will be one of the former track champions recognized during the event. Racing begins at 6 p.m.

On Sunday, Aug. 13, Pokorski will participate in the third and final MSA event of the season at the Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie. Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The Pokorski Motorsports sponsors for the 2017 season include: Acme Armature Works Inc., Goeden’s Auto Body, Goodwin Racing Engines, Jens, Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Services & Crematory, Kettle Moraine Landscaping, Novak’s Service Center, Pedal Down Promotions, Christel Sign, Tisler Salvage Inc. and The Cawley Company.

Pokorski Motorsports looks to overcome motor woes

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 21, 2017 – After dealing with a perplexing engine problem in its previous race, Paul Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports team went into last Saturday’s Plymouth Dirt Track Racing program thinking those motor woes had been straightened away.

The engine issue forced the team to scratch from the Midwest Sprint Car Association A main at Angell Park on Sunday, June 11. On the following day, the Pokorski crew went through the process of pulling the motor out of the car. While doing so, the team found that a piece in the fuel injection system had come loose.

Upon fixing the fuel injection issue, the team pulled into The Plymouth Dirt Track to take on a stout field of 31 PDTR Sprint Cars on Saturday, June 17.

However, once again the evening was cut short when motor problems resurfaced in hot laps. After attempting to fix the problem to no avail, the team was forced to scratch for the evening.

“We aren’t sure what’s wrong with the car yet,” Pokorski said. “We pulled the motor out on Monday and we will send it to our engine builder to get it check out.

“We will be working over the next few days to get our back-up J&J car out again to race this weekend,” he said.

The team is eyeing another doubleheader weekend, which is scheduled to start with an event at Spring Lake Speedway in Unity on Friday, June 23, followed by a return to The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, June 24.

“I have never raced up at Unity,” Pokorski said. “I have only seen the pictures of the track that others have posted. I’m looking forward to racing there.”

Spring Lake Speedway is located at 4854 County Road F in Unity Wisconsin. Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. with racing set to start at 7:30 p.m.

Spectator gates will open at 4:30 p.m. with racing set to start at 6 p.m. this Saturday, June 24 at Plymouth.

The Pokorski Motorsports sponsors for the 2017 season include: Acme Armature Works Inc., Goeden’s Auto Body, Goodwin Racing Engines, Jens, Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Services & Crematory, Kettle Moraine Landscaping, Novak’s Service Center, Pedal Down Promotions, Christel Sign, Tisler Salvage Inc. and The Cawley Company.

“I think the fact that we do balancing, machine work and welding in our shop sets us apart,” Bahrs said. “We have the ability to do blower wheel balancing, provide a wide range of machine work and weld cast iron, which you don’t see in every other shop.”

Acme Armature Works also sells many makes and models of electric and servo motors.

Pokorski Motorsports halts victory drought with PDTR A main win

By Jeff Pederson – Pedal Down Promotions

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) May 31, 2017 – After completing the 2016 season without an A-main victory, Paul Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports team entered the 2017 campaign with a top goal of returning to victory lane.

It took just three weeks for the team to reach its goal as Pokorski scored a dominating flag-to-flag victory in the 25-lap Plymouth Dirt Track Racing Sprint Car A-main Saturday, May 27, at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wisconsin.

After the team’s primary 2016 Maxim chassis was damaged in an opening night accident, Pokorski strapped into his backup J&J car for the second consecutive week. Much like the previous Saturday at PDTR when he posted a third-place finish in the Sprint Car A main, Pokorski was strong right out of the pit chute.

With a strong field of 32 Sprint Cars checked in for the evening, Pokorski rolled off fourth in the fourth Sprint Car heat race. The 2014 Midwest Sprint Car Association Masters Series champion passed Tyler Brabant in the early going to record a third-place showing in the 10-lap race behind second place Dannon Tessmer and race winner Danny Schlafer.

The solid run in the heat race put the 25-year veteran beside polesitter Kenjay Fiedler on the outside of the front row for the 25-lap A-main event.

Pokorski used a big run along the preferred outside groove to grab the lead in turn two of the opening lap. He showed his strength throughout the race building as much as a half-lap lead by the half-way point.

The race was not without a nervous moment as Pokorski nearly lost the handle of his machine spinning sideways while attempting to pass a lapped car in turn two in the latter stages of the event.

However, he held on to miraculously maintain the lead. He cruised the rest of the way to his 10th career Sprint Car A-main victory and third career PDTR A-main triumph. It was the team’s first A-main victory since Aug. 14, 2015 at the now defunct Manitowoc Expo Speedway.

Coupled with his 35 career Winged Super Modifed A-main victories, it was Pokorski’s 45th career A-main event triumph.

“The car was very good, and the race track was right up my alley,” Pokorski said. “However, I wasn’t confident that we had a comfortable lead. Not knowing what is behind you and having to keep pushing is part of what makes Sprint Car racing great!

“I definitely thought I threw it away when I nearly spun in trying to dive under a lapped car,” he said. “I’m thankful that I was able to catch it at the very last moment.”

Pokorski thoroughly enjoyed the victory, and the fact that one of his sponsors – Pedal Down Promotions – supplied the trophies for the race was a welcome bonus.

“I am savoring the win this week and hoping we can do it again soon,” Pokorski said.

The team had planned to join the Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series for an event at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek on Saturday, May 28, but the race program was rained out.

This weekend Pokorski plans to compete at Plymouth Dirt Track Racing at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth on Saturday, June 3. 18740119_10155325197693497_2488176668115783830_nIt will mark the team’s return to its primary car.

“We are going to switch back to the Maxim chassis for this week partially because the guys at R&H Enterprises have helped us so much with shocks and other setup things and I think there is some untapped potential yet in that car,” Pokorski said.

Spectator gates will open at 4:30 p.m. with racing scheduled to start at 6 p.m. this Saturday night at Plymouth. It is Police, Fire and EMS Night, as well as Graduates Night with free admission with an ID.

The Pokorski Motorsports sponsors for the 2017 season include: Acme Armature Works Inc., Goeden’s Auto Body, Goodwin Racing Engines, Jens, Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Services & Crematory, Kettle Moraine Landscaping, Novak’s Service Center, Pedal Down Promotions, Christel Sign, Tisler Salvage Inc. and The Cawley Company.
